Marcel Huel
President and CEO
Marcel brings more than 37 years of diverse experience in software development and senior management roles to bear on his current position as President and CEO. His almost four decades with BDM includes its acquisition by GE from 2002 to 2013, where he was General Manager of worldwide operations for both the GE Pharmacy and Lab IT businesses, responsible for software development, client services and client support globally.
Marcel is proud of BDM’s ongoing investment in a robust program of research and development that has culminated in MöV, a cutting-edge, highly functional world-class pharmacy system already in use at a variety of health enterprises across North America. He’s passionate about envisioning and designing software solutions to address complex healthcare challenges. For Marcel, there is something deeply rewarding in harnessing technology to help caregivers across the healthcare spectrum become more efficient, maximizing the time they have to do what they do best – care for patients.
John Frail
VP Marketing, Sales and Business Development
John joined BDM in 1989 and now utilizes his more than 30 years of experience in healthcare information technology to provide effective leadership to all solution and services sales, business development activities as well as marketing strategies and initiatives.
He has held several roles in his career at BDM including leading the worldwide operation of the Pharmacy and Lab Sales teams for GE Healthcare and helping to pilot the transition from BDM to GE in 2002 and then back to BDM in 2013. A presence in every BDM system sale since 1995, he has an award-winning, proven track record in healthcare sales, and has dedicated his entire career to serving BDM’s clients across the U.S. and in Canada.
John is proud of his and his team’s role in BDM’s standing in the pharmacy information systems community, and looks forward to leading BDM’s expansion into other healthcare markets with its next generation of products and services.
Armand Sewell
VP Operations
Armand has been with BDM Healthware Inc. for over two decades, and now oversees the technical support, research and development, custom software development, services, QA and IT/IS teams. His initial years in technical support working directly with clients ensures he prioritizes a high level of responsive customer service in all of BDM’s interactions. Armand endeavors to provide high-quality, user-friendly, safe and secure applications that BDM’s clients demand and deserve to succeed.
Armand holds a B.Sc in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan, and he’s undertaken the GE Leadership University program as well as completed the Effective Executive Leadership Program from the Edwards School of Business. He initiated and coordinated the Growing for a Cure fundraiser in support of the Canadian Cancer Society for eight years, and currently helps coach his three busy children in their various sports and school activities.
Laurienne Thesen
VP Products and Portfolios
Laurienne draws on her wealth of industry experience with organizations as diverse as the U.S. Navy and the Geisinger Medical Center to address and solve challenges in healthcare. She’s been with BDM since 2007, and her knowledge of a variety of clinical users and systems across multiple facilities enables her to focus on improving workflows and generating more streamlined and efficient processes for clients. Laurienne is responsible for all product management including the design and implementation of new modules as well as successive versions of BDM’s applications.
Laurienne loves the variety inherent in working in a perpetually evolving field. She’s passionate about investigating challenges, improving design, enhancing workflows and developing solutions tailored to each client’s specific needs. Most important to her, though, is empowering clinicians to use best-in-class software solutions to provide the highest level of care possible.
Shaun Huel
Controller
Shaun has been putting his extensive sales, business and accounting knowledge to work for BDM for the past decade after beginning his career with GE, where he won the USCAN President’s Award as one of their top salespersons in his first year. His role is a bit of a catch-all for business activities at BDM, but he has a specific passion for contracting, financial reporting and cleaning up inefficiencies to make the business run as smoothly as possible. It’s also important to Shaun to foster strong relationships with both customers and vendors.
Shaun convocated with a BComm (with Distinction) from the University of Saskatchewan before receiving his CPA, CMA designation in 2015, when he was named valedictorian and won the CMA President’s Gold Medal. He currently serves as Treasurer of the board of AIDS Saskatoon.
Greg Mills
Manager, Implementation Services and Clinical Specialist
Greg holds a BA from the University of Saskatchewan and came to BDM in 1996. He draws on more than 24 years of experience with organizations ranging from Johns Hopkins Hospital to McGill Health Network to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority for the benefit of all of BDM’s clients. He works closely with both the client’s and BDM’s project teams throughout the implementation process to ensure all phases of the project progress on time and on budget. Greg is dedicated to forming lasting, positive relationships with his clients, and he feels privileged to continue to partner with them post-installation to provide ongoing support.
Greg’s pharmacy and general healthcare background, not to mention his more than two decades of experience implementing pharmacy systems, make him a key contributor to the design of new modules as well as each successive software version of BDM’s software applications.
Lawrence Easton
Project Manager, Implementation and Quality Services
Lawrence is primarily responsible for managing corporate internal resources and logistics regarding the successful execution of implementation projects for new and existing healthcare clients. As the primary BDM project contact, he works with the client’s project management team to ensure an on-time, on-budget project execution.
Lawrence acquired both a BComm (Computer Science) and a Business Administration Certificate from the University of Saskatchewan, and holds a Project Management Professional designation as well as a Master’s Certificate in Project Management. His education is supplemented by more than 20 years of applied experience grounded in project management, information technology and business management with national and international organizations.
Lawrence is currently affiliated with the Project Management Institute and volunteers as a board member with Cystic Fibrosis Canada in Saskatchewan.
Kirby Haveroen
Manager, Information Technology and Security
Kirby has 16 years of experience in healthcare information technology, specializing in risk management, application security and cloud technology. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Devry Institute of Technology, is a member of the GIAC Advisory Board and currently holds CISSP, GCED and GWAPT security certifications.
Kirby is responsible for leading BDM’s team of technical professionals focusing on customer satisfaction, particularly as it relates to application implementation, upgrades and minimizing downtimes. He’s also proud of designing a HIPAA-compliant, BDM-hosted application solution that’s cloud-based, enabling BDM clients to access software, workflows and expertise without significant capital investment. Most important to Kirby, though, is putting his expertise in security and risk mitigation to work for BDM’s clients, who can be confident all data within a BDM implementation is handled responsibly and stored securely.
